John Lennon wrote this song but it is credited to Lennon-McCartney. It was first recorded by The Beatles on a private tape in 1960. They recorded the song again 1962 for their Decca audition. That version was released in 1995 on the album Anthology 1. The Fourmost recorded the song in 1963. The Fourmost were a band from Liverpool who were managed by Brian Epstein. They recorded Hello Little Girl at EMI Studios. It was released as a single with Just In Case on the B-side. The single was produced by George Martin. It reached number nine on the UK Singles chart. Gerry And The Pacemakers recorded the song in 1963 but their version wasn’t released until 1991. It was released on the album ‎The Best Of Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Definitive Collection.

Written by Norman Petty and Buddy Holly, Maybe Baby was recorded by The Crickets in 1957. It was first released in 1957 on the album The “Chirping” Crickets. John Lennon owned a copy of the album. The song was later released as a single in 1958 with Tell Me How on the B-side. It reached number four in the UK chart and Buddy Holly and The Crickets toured the UK that year. Paul McCartney saw them perform at the Philharmonic Hall in Liverpool. This song influenced the middle eight of John Lennon’s song Hello Little Girl. The Beatles’ version, recorded in 1962, was released in 1995 on their album Anthology 1. The Beatles played Maybe Baby during the Let It Be sessions in 1969. John Lennon played the song during the filming of Clock in 1971 and during rehearsals for 1972 concert at Madison Square Garden in New York.He also played the song during a jam session with Mick Jagger in 1974. Paul McCartney covered the song in 2000 for the soundtrack of the movie of the same name.
