Have I Told You Lately That I Love You was written in 1945 by Scotty Wiseman. It was first recorded by Gene Autry. It was recorded by Foy Willing And The Riders of the Purple Sage in 1946. It was released as a single with Cool Water on the B-side. The song has been recorded by Liverpudlian singers Billy Fury, Michael Holliday and Ken Dodd. It has also been recorded by RIcky Nelson, Elvis Presley and Eddie Cochran among others.

It was one of the songs sung at the Starkey’s get-togethers. Ringo Starr covered the song in 1970 for his album Sentimental Journey. Paul McCartney played the song during the rehearsals for his appearance on MTV Unplugged in 1991.  The Quarrymen recorded the song in 1997 for their album Get Back – Together.
