Junk was written by Paul McCartney in 1968. A demo version recorded by The Beatles in 1968 was released in 1996 on Anthology 3. The song was also played during the Let It Be sessions in 1969. Paul McCartney recorded the song at his home studio and Morgan Studios in London in 1970. That version features Linda McCartney on backing vocals. It was produced by Paul McCartney and was released on his 1970 album McCartney. An instrumental version, Singalong Junk, was also released on McCartney in 1970. Both Junk and Singalong Junk are part of Paul McCartney’s repertoire. A live version of Singalong Junk was released on Unplugged (The Official Bootleg) in 1991. That version was incorrectly titled Junk. A version of Singalong Junk performed by the London Symphony Orchestra was released on Working Classical in 1999. That version was also titled as Junk. A version recorded by Cilla Black in 1971 was produced by George Martin. Junk has also been recorded by John Denver and Chet Atkins. Jeff Lynne recorded the song in 2014 for the album The Art of McCartney.
