The version released on the album New Morning does not feature George Harrison. If Not For You was also released as a single in the UK in 1971. The B-side was New Morning. George Harrison also recorded the song in 1970. It was released on his album All Things Must Pass and features Ringo Starr. Bob Dylan and George Harrison played the song during the soundcheck for the Concert for Bangladesh in 1971. They also played the song together at The 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration at Madison Square Garden in New York in 1992. The song has also been recorded by Olivia Newton-John, Bobby Wright, and Glen Campbell among others.
