Layla was written by Eric Clapton and Jim Gordon. It was first recorded by Derek And The Dominos in 1970 and was released on their album Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs. It is just one of the songs on the album that was written about George Harrison’s wife Pattie Boyd. An edited version of the song was released as a single in America in 1971. The B-side was I Am Yours. The single reached number fifty-one on the Billboard chart. The full-length version was released as a single in the UK in 1972 with Bell Bottom Blues on the B-side. It went to number seven on the UK Singles chart. Eric Clapton recorded an acoustic version of the song in 1992 during his appearance on MTV Unplugged. That version was released on his 1992 album Unplugged. That version was also released as a single in 1992 with Tears In Heaven on the B-side. The single reached number forty-five on the UK Singles chart.
