This song was written by Pete Townshend for the rock opera Tommy. It was first recorded by The Who for their 1969 album Tommy. The album also included Pinball Wizard and Tommy’s Holiday Camp. The album reached number two on the UK Album chart. In the musical the song is sung by the character Uncle Ernie. Ringo Starr played the part of Uncle Ernie during a performance of Tommy in 1972. An album of the cast recording was released in 1972. It includes Ringo Starr’s version of Fiddle About.
