They’re Coming To Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa!

This novelty song was written by Jerry Samuels in 1966. It was based on the traditional Scottish song The Campbells Are Coming. It was recorded by Jerry Samuels under the same Napoleon XIV in 1966. It was released as a single with !aaaH-aH, yawA eM ekaT oT gnimoC er’yehT on the B-side. The B-side was the entire A-side in reverse. John Lennon liked the song and used a line (ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-ha) from the song in The Beatles’ 1967 song I Am The Walrus. John Lennon originally wanted The Beatles’ 1966 song Rain to end with the entire song in reverse. Rain was released in May 1966, two months before They’re Coming To Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa!
