Birthday was written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. It was first recorded by The Beatles in 1968. It was recorded at EMI Studios and was produced by Chris Thomas. The recording features Pattie Boyd and Yoko Ono on backing vocals and handclaps. The recording also features handclaps by Mal Evans. Birthday was first released on The Beatles’ 1968 album The Beatles. Birthday was also released as a single in Argentina in 1969. The B-side was Honey Pie. The song is part of Paul McCartney’s repertoire. A live version recorded at Knebworth in 1990 was released as a single in 1990 with Good Day Sunshine on the B-side. That version was also released on the 1990 album Tripping The Live Fantastic. Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney performed the song live in 2010.
