Hey Joe, Where You Gonna Go was written by Billy Roberts in 1962. It was first recorded by The Leaves in 1965. Since then it has been recorded by Tim Rose, The Surfaris, and The Byrds among others. The Jimi Hendrix Experience recorded the song in 1966. It was produced by Chas Chandler and was released as a single with the title Hey Joe. The B-side was Stone Free. It was The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s debut release. It reached number six on the UK Singles chart. The song influenced the bridge on The Beatles’ 1967 song A Day In The Life.
