1701 What The World Needs Now Is Love – Cilla Black (1968)



This song was written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David in 1965. It was first recorded by Jackie DeShannon in 1965. Since then the song has been recorded by Janet Lennon, Dionne Warwick, and Johnny Mathis among others. Cilla Black recorded the song in 1968. It was released on her album Sher-oo! The album was produced by George Martin and also included Step Inside Love. In America the song was released as a single with Only Forever Will Do on the B-side. The song was also released on the charity album No One’s Gonna Change Our World in 1969. The Beatles played the song during the Let It Be sessions in 1969.
