This song was written by Jerry Ragovoy and Bert Berns. It was first recorded by Erma Franklin in 1967. The song was recorded by Big Brother And The Holding Company in 1968. Their version featured Janis Joplin on lead vocals. It was released on their album Cheap Thrills. The song was also released as a single with Turtle Blues on the B-side. The single reached number twelve on the Billboard chart. Janis Joplin’s singing influenced Paul McCartney’s singing on The Beatles 1969 song Oh! Darling. The Beatles played Piece Of My Heart during the Let It Be sessions in 1969.
