Since then it has been recorded by Esher Phillips, Buck Owens, The Everly Brothers, and Dolly Parton among others. Engelbert Humperdinck recorded his version in 1966. It was recorded at Decca Studios in London and was produced by Dick Rowe. It was released as a single on the Decca label in 1967. The B-side was Ten Guitars. The single reached number four on the Billboard chart and number one on the UK Singles chart. Release Me was the UK number one single for six weeks beginning on 2 March 1967, keeping The Beatles’ single Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields Forever off the top of the chart. It was the first time since 1962 that a single by The Beatles’ failed to reach number one in the UK.
