This song was written and recorded by Bobby Hebb in 1966. It was released as a single with Bread on the B-side. It reached number two on the Billboard chart and number twelve on the UK Singles chart. Bobby Hebb was one of the support acts on The Beatles’ 1966 American tour. Sunny was his biggest hit at the time and during the tour it ranked higher than any Beatles song on the Billboard chart. Bobby Hebb recorded a disco version of the song, entitled Sunny ’76 in 1975. The song has also been recorded by Wilson Pickett, Chuck Jackson, Cher, and The Lennon Sisters among others. Billy Preston recorded the song in 1966 and released it as a single.
