This song was written by Con Docherty in the 1940s and was first published in 1948. It was the theme for Gaumont British cinema’s Junior Club. It was also used by Odeon cinemas, with changed lyrics. The song is also known as Boys And Girls Song. It was played at the beginning of children’s Saturday morning matinees during the 1940s and 1950s.

The opening lines are :
We come along on Saturday morning
Greeting everybody with a smile

It was sung by Liverpool born comedian Tommy Handley. Tommy Handley appears on the cover of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. John Lennon sang the opening lines during an interview in 1980.
