1403 Yesterday – Matt Monro (1965)

This song was written by Paul McCartney but is credited to Lennon-McCartney. It was first recorded by The Beatles in 1965. The song has been covered over 2,200 times. Matt Monro was the first to cover the song. He recorded his version in 1965. It was recorded at EMI Studios and the strings were arranged by George Martin. It was released as a single on the  Parlophone label with Just Yesterday (Your Love Was Mine) on the B-side. It reached number eight on the UK Singles chart. The song was also included on his 1965 album Hits Of Yesterday and his 1967 album Yesterday.
