This song was written by Pete Seeger. The lyrics are adapted from Chapter 3 of the Book of Ecclesiastes. It was first recorded The Limeliters in 1962. It was recorded by Pete Seeger the same year. Since then it has been recorded by Judy Collins, The Seekers, and Nina Simone among others. It was recorded by The Byrds in 1965. It was released as a single with She Don’t Care About Time on the B-side. It reached number one on the Billboard chart and number twenty-six on the UK Singles chart. George Harrison was a fan of The Byrds and this single was on his 1966 jukebox.  Mary Hopkin covered the song in 1968. Her version was produced by Paul McCartney and released as the B-side to Those Were The Days.
