Brian Epstein with Four Tops.

This song was written by Lamont Dozier, Brian Holland, and Eddie Holland. The song is very similar in melody and chord progressions to I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch), recorded by Four Tops in 1965, which in turn is similar in melody and chord progressions to Where Did Our Love Go, recorded by The Supremes in 1964. It’s The Same Old Song was  first recorded by Four Tops in 1965. It was released as a single with Your Love Is Amazing on the B-side. It reached number five on the Billboard chart and number two on the R&B chart. In the UK it reached number thirty-four on the UK singles chart. The song influenced The Beatles 1965 song You Won’t See Me for their album Rubber Soul. John Lennon sings a few lines from the song during The Beatles’ Third Christmas Record from 1965.
