Oh Dear What Can The Matter Be.

This traditional English nursery rhyme is also known as Johnny’s So Long At The Fair. It can be traced back to the 1780. It was first published in 1792. Part of the lyrics are :

Oh dear, what can the matter be?
Dear, dear, what can the matter be?
Oh dear, what can the matter be?
Johnny’s so long at the fair.

The song has been recorded by Ella Logan,Max Miller, and Mitch Miller And The Gang among others. Liverpudlian singer Lita Roza recorded the song in 1959. The tune was also used in Jonathan King’s 1967 song Round, Round. The first line of the lyrics and the tune are similar to The Beatles’ 1964 song Baby’s In Black.
