This song was written by Bob Dylan. He recorded it in 1965. It was first released on his album Bringing It All Back Home in 1965. The song was also released on the EP of the same name in the UK in 1966. The song has also been recorded by The Byrds, The Silkie, and Chad & Jeremy among others. Bob Dylan performed the song live at The Concert For Bangladesh in 1971. The band included George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Klaus Voormann, and Billy Preston among others. The recording was released on the 1971 album The Concert For Bangladesh.The song was performed by Pete Townshend at the funeral of Neil Aspinall in 2008.
