This song was written by Phil Spector, Barry Mann, and Cynthia Weil. It was first recorded by The Righteous Brothers in 1964. It was recorded by Cilla Black in 1965. Her version was recorded at EMI Studios and was produced by George Martin. It was released as a single on the Parlophone label. The B-side was Is It Love? The single went to number two on the UK Singles Chart. Cilla Black was from Liverpool and was managed by Brian Epstein. This was her fourth top ten single in the UK. She re-recorded the song in 1985 for her album Surprisingly Cilla.
