This traditional Irish song is also known as Did You Wash Your Father’s Shirt?. It dates back to at least the early 20th century. It was popular among children across Britain in the 1940s and 1950s. It is played on the black keys of the piano. The song has several different versions of lyrics. The version The Beatles’ knew went :

Oh, can you wash your father’s shirt?
Oh, can you wash it clean?
Can you hang it on the line
By the village green

The Beatles play part of the song during the 1964 flexi disc Another Beatles Christmas Record.
