This song was written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. It was first recorded by The Beatles in 1963. It was recorded at EMI Studios and produced by George Martin. It was released as the B-side to I Want To Hold Your Hand. The single reached number one on the UK Singles Chart. In Canada it was released as the B-side to All My Loving. A live version recorded for The Morecambe And Wise Show in 1963 was released in 1995 on the album Anthology 1. They also recorded the song for BBC Radio and one version was released in 2013 on the album On Air : Live At The BBC Volume 2. An instrumental version by The George Martin Orchestra was used in the 1964 movie A Hard Day’s Night under the title Ringo’s Theme (This Boy). It was released as the B-side to And I Love Her (Instrumental) in 1964. Outtakes from the recording sessions were used in Paul McCartney’s 2000 song Plastic Beetle from his album Liverpool Sound Collage.Sean Lennon performed the song live with Rufus Wainwright in 2001 for the TV special Come Together: A Night for John Lennon’s Words and Music. The song has also been recorded by Sonny Curtis among others.
