This song was written by Mitch Murray and was first recorded by The Beatles in 1962. Their version wasn’t released until 1995 on their album Anthology 1. Merseybeat group Gerry And The Pacemakers recorded their version in 1963. Gerry And The Pacemakers were managed by Brian Epstein and this song was recorded at EMI Studios and was produced by George Martin. It was released as their debut single with Away From You on the B-side. It reached number one on the UK Singles Chart. The single was released in America in 1964 and went to number nine on the Billboard Chart. Gerry And The Pacemakers were on the Roy Orbison tour with The Beatles in 1963. This was their biggest single at the time. Paul McCartney sang a few lines from the song during an interview in 2016.
