This song was written by Joe Dong and Teddy Vann and was adapted from the traditional children’s song Looby Loo. It was first recorded by Johnny Thunder in 1962. It was released as a single with Don’t Be Ashamed on the B-side. The single was released in the UK in 1963. Liverpudlian singer Frankie Vaughan covered the song in 1963 and released it as a single. It reached number five on the UK Singles chart. Merseybeat girl group The Liverbirds recorded the song in 1966 and released it as a single. The Beatles played the song during the Let It Be sessions in 1969. A version recorded by Harry Nilsson and released on the album Pussy Cats in 1974 was produced by John Lennon.
