This song was written by Jerry Leiber, Mike Stoller and Richard Barrett. It was first recorded by Richie Barrett in 1962. It was released as a single with Tricky Dicky on the B-side. The song was part of The Beatles’ repertoire and was sung by John and Paul. A live version was filmed at The Cavern in 1962. They recorded the song for BBC Radio. One version was released in 1994 on the album Live At The BBC. Another version was released in 2013 on the album The Beatles Bootleg Recordings 1963. The Richie Barrett single was on George Harrison’s 1966 jukebox. The Beatles also played the song during the Let It Be sessions in 1969. The intro to the song was an influence on John Lennon’s 1970 song Instant Karma!

The song was also part of the repertoires of The Searchers and The Big Three. The Big Three recorded the song in 1963 and released it as a single. Their single was on John Lennon’s 1965 jukebox. The Searchers also recorded the song in 1963 and released it on their album Sugar And Spice. Pete Best recorded the song in 1965 and released it on his album Best Of The Beatles. The Pete Best Band recorded a live version at The Adelphi in Liverpool in 1988. It was released in 1992 on their album Live At The Adelphi, Liverpool; 1988.
