This song was written and recorded by Chuck Berry. It was first released in 1961 as a single with Little Star on the B-side. It was also released on Chuck Berry’s album New Juke Box Hits. The song was added to The Beatles’ repertoire and was sung by John. A live version was released in 1977 on the album Live! At The Star-Club In Hamburg, Germany; 1962. The Beatles also played the song on BBC radio and a version was released in 2013 on the album On Air – Live At The BBC Volume 2. They also played the song during the Let It Be sessions in 1969. The bass riff was used in I Saw Her Standing There from the 1963 album Please Please Me.
The song has also been recorded by The Rolling Stones, The Hollies, Rick Nelson and The Yardbirds. Merseybeat group Faron’s Flamingos covered the song in 1963 for the album This Is Merseybeat. Another Merseybeat group The Liverbirds covered the song in 1965. It was released on their album Star-Club Show 4.
