What’d I Say was written by Ray Charles in 1958 and released by him in 1959. Eddie Cochran recorded the song for BBC Radio when he came to England in 1960. It was broadcast on Saturday Club in March 1960. It was one of his last recordings. He was killed in a car crash in April 1960. The recording was released on the album Rock ‘N’ Roll Heroes in 1981. Both John Lennon and George Harrison saw Eddie Cochran perform live at the Liverpool Empire in March 1960. He opened with this song. What’d I Say became part of The Beatles’ repertoire.
