(Baby) Hully Gully was written by Fred Sledge Smith and Clifford Goldsmith. It was first recorded by The Olympics in 1959. Their version was released as a single. It was the B-side of Private Eye . The song has been covered by Buddy Guy, Chubby Checker, Cliff Bennett and The Rebel Rousers and The Beach Boys. A live version recorded by The Searchers at the Star-Club was released in 1963 on the album “Sweets For My Sweet” – The Searchers At The Star-Club Hamburg. Hully Gully was part of The Beatles’ repertoire and was sung by John. A fight would usually break out when The Beatles played this song.
