The single went to number one on the Billboard chart and the R&B chart. It was the last 78 record to reach number one in the US. The B-side was Listen, My Darling. Wilbert Harrison recorded an answer song, Goodbye Kansas City, in 1960. Kansas City has also been recorded by Bill Haley And His Comets, Wanda Jackson, and Brenda Lee among others. Little Richard recorded the song as part of a medley with Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey in 1959. The medley was recorded by The Beatles in 1964. A version by Tony Sheridan was released in 1964 on the album Just A Little Bit Of Tony Sheridan.The Beatles added the song to their repertoire and it was sung by Paul. They played the song during the Let It Be sessions in 1969.
