The opening song to the film of the same name The Girl Can’t Help It was written by Bobby Troup and was performed by Little Richard in the film. It was recorded by him in 1956 and released as a single with All Around The World on the B-side. It reached number nine in the UK. The film and it’s soundtrack were a major influence on all The Beatles. As well as Little Richard the film also included performances from Gene Vincent and His Blue Caps (Be-Bop-A-Lula), Eddie Cochran (Twenty Flight Rock) and Fats Domino (Blue Monday). The Beatles interrupted the recording session for Birthday during the making of the white album in 1968 so that they could all go to Paul’s house and watch The Girl Can’t Help It when it was first shown on British TV.
The song was been covered by Merseybeat group The Fourmost in 1965. It has also been covered by The Animals. It was also part of a Little Richard Medley performed live by Delaney and Bonnie on their 1969 tour. A version released on the 2010 deluxe edition box set of On Tour With Eric Clapton features George Harrison on guitar. The Pete Best Band covered the song in 1999 and released it on their album Casbah Coffee Club.
