This song was written by Ric Cartey and Carole Joyner in 1956. It was first recorded by Ric Cartey with The Jiva- Tones and released on Stars Records. Sonny James recorded a version in 1957 that reached number one on the Billboard Country chart. The backing group was The Jordanaires who had worked with Elvis Presley. The Crew-Cuts also covered the song. Mary Hopkin recorded the song in 1969 for her album Postcard. The album was produced by Paul McCartney. Paul McCartney and Denny Laine played the song during a jam session in the 1970s. John Lennon also covered the song in the late 1970s.
