Riders In The Sky (Cowboy Legend), or to give it it’s full name, (Ghost) Riders In The Sky: A Cowboy Legend was written in 1948 by Stan Jones. Stan Jones also recorded the original version the same year and Burl Ives recorded his version a year later. In the UK it was released as a single with Wayfaring Stranger and Woolie Boogie Bee on the B-side. The song has also been recorded by Bing Crosby, Peggy Lee, and Spike Jones among others. Ringo Starr remembers this song playing when he lost his virginity in 1956. George Harrison sings the opening line at the beginning of his 1974 song I Don’t Care Anymore.
