0026 Twinkle Twinkle Little Star – Taylor (1806)

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

The lyrics to this English lullaby come from the 1806 poem The Star by Jane Taylor. It was later set to the French melody of Ah! Vous Dirais-je, Maman. Part of the lyric influenced the lyrics to Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds. The first verse goes:

Twinkle, Twinkle, little star
How I wonder what you are.
Up above the world so high,
Like a diamond in the sky.

The poem is parodied in the 1865 book Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. Part of the tune was used in Ringo Starr’s song Have I Told You Lately That I Love You from his 1970 album Sentimental Journey.
